Food & Sustainability in My Place

Sustainability is becoming more recognized in coastal North Carolina. There are more programs being put in place to promote sustainability in the environment. It is becoming increasingly apparent that certain measures need to be taken to preserve natural areas. The sustainability programs that are being proposed and revised focus on the interaction between the human population and the environment, based on the economic and physical needs of the people in a certain area. Coastal communities have to find a balance in their ecosystem to benefit all organisms. Over-fishing can often be problematic because of the mass quantities of fish needed to support locals and the tourism industry. This connects food and sustainability, and will require compromise to ensure that the needs of the locals, economy, and environment are all met adequately.
