Kahn and Discussion Response

After discussing Kahn's Towards Ecopedagogy, I have a better understanding of the meaning of his work. Kahn was describing the current condition of the environment and discussing the negative effects globalization has had on the Earth. Kahn used a lot of statistics, and I found his writing dense and hard to read. One quote in Kahn's work that stood out to me was, "It is clear, then, that despite the effects and growth of environmental education over the last few decades, it is a field that is ripe for a reconstruction of its literacy agenda.” (Kahn 9) Kahn's plan to relieve the crisis was to have more people educated about environmental studies and literature. In this quote he acknowledges what has already been attempted, but concludes that it is time to reshape the way environmental education is taught. Kahn is saying that what we have now is not good enough and will not make enough of an impact to help create awareness about globalization and the environmental crisis facing the Earth today. The quotes shared by other students also helped me to better understand the main points of Kahn's message.
