The bioregional quiz was an eye opener. There are a lot of environmental components to life. Citizens do not know or understand much of what goes on daily in cities all over the world. The quiz proved that there are basic questions about the local environment that are unanswerable because of a lack of knowledge. Often the lack of knowledge about environmental topics doesn’t improve because there’s no desire to learn. There is not much value placed on the environment anymore.

McKibben’s podcasts emphasized the lack of enthusiasm for preserving the environment. The purpose of the podcast was to announce that global warming is here. To change the world for the better communities need to work together and start locally. After local improvements are made the goal is to disperse the movement into other areas. To be able to continue into the future the way the environment is cared for and protected will have to change, which includes how food is produced and how energy is dispersed.
